If you're going to spend a morning driving five supercars, the two must-haves are a Ferrari and a Lamborghini -- and World Class Driving did not disappoint. Not only did they have an iconic Lamborghini Gallardo in an orange that stood out in the piney forests near Bellingham, Washington, it was a Superleggera edition (that's "super light" in Italian).
The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, a version of the Gallardo, was launched at the 2007 Geneva Auto Show. The Superleggera paid tribute to the first Lamborghini production model, the famous 350GT, which was designed and built by the Carrozzeria Touring in Milan, a coachbuilding company that recently restarted its activities. The Lamborghini Gallardo doesn't have a Superleggera style constructed body
I was a bit nervous when I saw on the roster that I'd be in the Superleggera first thing in the morning. I mean, it wasn't even eight o'clock, and I was expected to pilot 500-plus horsepower along two-lane roads? What if I forgot which paddle sifter was up and which was down? What if I fell behind? What if I made fool out of myself? Luckily, World Class Driving and the Lamborghini joined forces to make sure none of the above happened, and at about 8:25 that morning, I yelled, "I'm driving a Lamborghini!" at the top of my lungs for all the squirrels and deer to hear. If they could hear me at all over the sound of the V10 engine.
